Single Market-related pending cases: 15(4 new cases and 1 case closed; last report: 12 pending cases) – new increase by 3 cases and almost twice as many cases as in December 2018.

Despite a marked increase in its number of cases, Finland still has the 2nd lowest number of infringement cases among all Member States, well below the EU average.

The last year has seen the launch of 198 new cases (not including those for late transposition), which were still pending on 1 December 2020. With 4 such cases, Finland is below the EU average of 7 new cases launched within a year. On the other hand, only 1 Finnish case has been resolved since December 2019, which is much less than the EU average (5) of such cases.

Problematic sectors: No sector in particular.

Average case duration: 26.3 months for the 10 Single Market-related cases not yet sent to the Court (last report: 22.5 months) – increase by 3.8 months but duration of cases still well below the EU average.

Most of the Finnish cases (8/10) have a moderate duration (14.4 months on average). Only 2 cases have considerable durations: 1 case on air transport that has been ongoing for 10 years and 1 case on consumer & health for 5 years.

Compliance with Court rulings: no more Single Market-related case at this stage of the procedure (last report: 27.6 months).
